Arrowhill Blaven Skye, CD, HC
1982 - 1990
OFA CO-554G24
As every family tree has its roots, every kennel has its foundation dog or dogs. The breeding program of Burlywood Collies began 40 years ago with the acquisition of the sable bitch, Arrowhill Blaven Skye "Libby".

Whelped in 1982, Libby was purchased as a four-month-old puppy from Sandra Tuttle of Arrowhill/Kasan Kennels. Her pedigree was beautifully line-bred on several top-producing collies from the original Arrowhill lines. When bred to the tri-color dog, Designer of Arrowhill, she produced two Champion daughters: Ch. Burlywood Ablaze o' Arrowhill, CD, HC, CGC, VC and Ch. Burlywood Aflame o' Arrowhill, HC.

Fury Freespirit of Burlywood, HIC
1994 - 2008

In 1989, while attending the Collie Club of America National Specialty in Colorado Springs, Colorado, we were completely enamoured by a young tricolor dog named Fury's The Spirit of Legends "Ara". We became very interested in incorporating this young dog into our breeding program. Ara went on to win Best Puppy at the National that year, and prior to his death in 1997, he earned his place in collie history as a ROM (Register of Merit) sire as well as being the sire of one of the top-producing collie sires of all time, Ch. Vennessee's Midnight Express ROM.

In 1994, a double-granddaughter of Ara was purchased as a 12-week-old baby from Jean Framke of Fury Collies. "Cherie's" acquistion has proven to be a pivotal event in our breeding program.

Cherie' earned 11 points toward her AKC championship under collie and sheltie specialists, as well as all-breed judges. More importantly, we were so pleased with her 1997 litter by Ch. Highcroft Oak Knoll Triton ROM which gave us Ch. Burlywood Breakaway, HIC, the "cover dog" on our home page, that she was bred a second time in 1998 to another outstanding producer, Ch. Executive's Gemstone Tycoon. That breeding produced our beautiful "Rachelle"- Ch. Burlywood Breeze Along, HIC.

Cherie' consistantly produced offspring possessing beautiful expression, skull, muzzle, ear carriage, neck, and topline, as well as her calm and gentle temperament. She earned her Herding Instinct Certification on sheep at just 7 months of age and several of her get have also been certified.

At the same CCA National in 1989, we also were quite taken with the collies of Rita Stanczik's Executive Kennels. Ch. Executive's Halo of Hearts was Winners Bitch that year, and she was a vision! At subsequent CCA Nationals, we continued to admire the beautiful Executive Collies who were highly competitive and consistantly did very well at the National level year after year.

In 1997, we acquired a tricolor bitch puppy from Rita who was a daughter of Ch. Fantasy's Bronze Talisman ROM out of the very beautiful Ch. Executive's Be My Valentine ROM. "Liza" possessed her dam's elegant outline, arch of neck and fun disposition - and her pedigree reads like a "Who's who?" of past CCA National award winners. Her litter of five puppies by Ch. Fantasy Bravo's Dream Weaver (a Bronze Talisman son) was born at the end of January 2000. Two puppies from that litter completed their championships and one other was pointed.
